Yannis Tzortzis, LLM, DEA, PhD Legal Counselor of the Regulatory Authority for Energy (ΡΑΕ)
Yannis Tzortzis, LLM, DEA, PhD is Attorney at Law at the Supreme Court and Legal Counselor of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Greece. He was born in Agios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece. He holds a PhD in Law from the University of London, a DEA from the European Academy of Legal Theory in Brussels, an LLM from the London School of Economics and a First Degree in Law from the University of Athens. He is an expert in Energy Law, Environmental Law and European Law of the EU Technical Assistance Information Exchange Unit (ΤΑΙΕΧ) and the European Public Law Organisation. He is member of the Renewable Energy Sources Group of the Council of European Energy Regulators. He has widely published articles and monographs. He is the author amongst others, of the “Oil and the Law: An Environmental Impact Assessment” (London: Esperia 2009), “The new role of The Regulatory Authority for Energy” (Athens: Sakkoulas, 2006), “Towards Better Regulation: Luhmannian autopoiesis and the Politics of Morphosis” (London: University of London, 2004) “Radical Criminology: A Critique” (Athens: Sakkoulas, 1991), and “Environmental Pollution” (Athens: National Hellenic Research Foundation, 1985). He is member of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain (RPS) and the Photographic Circle of Greece. He has studied photography in London. He expects an MSc in Culture Management from the Panteion University in Athens. He has been awarded the RPS Travelling Photographer of the Year 1993, the Jessop Group/Solihull Centre 1996, 1997, and “To Vima” newspaper and the Greek Tourist Organization 1998 award. He earned distinctions in the 18th International Photography Festival “Photosynkyria 2006” of the Photography Museum, Thessaloniki, the 14th “International Month of Photography 2007”, and the “Athens Photo Festival" 2008 and 2009 of the Hellenic Centre for Photography, where he received awards by the Portfolio Reviewers. He participated in “Lato” Art Festival 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2009 of the Cultural Organisation of Agios Nikolaos, Crete. He has published: “One thousand miles from home” (London 1997), “Iran: Through the walls of silence” (Agios Nikolaos 1998), “Inner Mirrors” (Agios Nikolaos 2002), “The Black Light of Congo” (Athens 2004), “On the roads of Mongolia” (Athens 2006), “Panama: The anthropology of photography” (Athens 2007), “Papua-New Guinea 2006: Truth and image” (Athens 2007), “Green Project Phase I: Tio Ilar” (Athens 2008), “Green Project Phase II” (Athens 2008), and “Green Project in Asia” (Athens 2009). He exhibits in Greece and England, as well as on the on-line gallery: www.arteshop.gr He has been working, amongst others, for “The Royal Geographical Society” journal and “Eleftherotypia” newspaper. He is the founder of the NGO “Green Project” for raising environmental consciousness through art (www.green-project.org)
